Fashion’s Night Out 2011: More than Fashion, It’s a Party with a Cause

It’s been awhile and I’m so excited for Fall Fashion 2011. Not only do I receive all my favorite fashion magazines in three times the normal size, but Fashion’s Night Out is on September 8th. There’s no better way to kick off Fall Fashion Week, then with a precursor of a fun filled fashion party at your favorite retailer.

I can’t believe there was a time when Fashion’s Night Out was only in NYC. I’m so glad it’s now international.  What a great way to pull a community together for fashion’s sake. I like to go to my local Fashion’s Night Out (Costa Mesa or Newport Beach, CA) where I see, touch and feel and maybe try on the latest designs from some of my favorite designer collections with a cocktail in hand. It’s a great fashion moment. It’s a fun night out to chill and see the Fall Fashion first hand.

Don’t forget FNO Collection. What’s a fashion night with out a capsule collection?  FNO has a collection of T-shirts, Totes, Hats where 40% of it’s proceeds go to New York City AIDS Fund in the New York Community Trust.  I’m spying this bag for my next FNO purchase.  The totes available in more colors, click here to see the entire collection: http://fashionsnightout.com/collection

Sunglasses: Puurfect Pair

It always amazing how every summer I need a new pair of sunglasses. It took me forever to figure out how not to leave them on the table at a restaurant and to always and I mean always keep them in a case in my handbag to avoid any scratches. Now wearing the same pair all summer just seems boring.  Sunglasses are the perfect way to update your look. After seeing Scartlett Johannson wearing this amazing pair by Tom Ford I knew I had to find a pair of cat eye sunglasses.

I took a moment to think about how the cat eye sunglasses craze began and it brought me to one of my favorite movies featuring my favorite style icon, Audrey Hepburn. In the film, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Audrey Hepburn plays Holly Golightly.  A single woman living in NYC who appears to be the ultimate party girl, who dresses the part in almost every scene. She wears these amazing pair of sunglasses that are big, yet has a cat eye look.

My search finally ended when I found this puurfect pair by Alexander McQueen. The two-tone gives it a bit of edge and the cat eye shape is modern and not over kill. What do you think about this pair? Would Holly Golightly wear these?  They also come in other colors.

Jumpstart Your Summer: Go Tropical

Summer is here and with June gloom finally subsiding in Laguna Beach, I can finally get my spirit of summer back.  However, it’s hard to when every fashion magazine is all about Fall 2011 Collections and trends or the Fall 2012 Collections from Paris.

In order to jump start my summer, I go to the tropics for inspiration. I’ll be wearing looks inspired by last Summer/Spring 2011 Collections and this amazing painting by Maria Bertran. She’s a Laguna Beach artist inspired by the tropics and this dress by Cynthia Steffe.  Is it just me or can you see this model walking down the beach wearing this beautiful strapless Maxi dress? (Please note, to go tropical fruit is not always part of the theme)

Haute Couture Fall 2012: Chanel Lighting Up My Life

Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2012 Collection pays homage to Madimoiselle Coco Chanel and with more tweed essentials than previous seasons and elegant gowns styled from yesteryear of the 1920’s.

Accessories were also vital to the collection and the long fingerless mesh gloves looked amazing.

All the Shoes Aglow at Chanel Haute Couture 2012 Collection

The finale was my favorite part of the show.  As models rejoined the circular stage, suddenly the lights dimmed and the shoes were all aglow.  I guess I’m a sucker for little gimmicks. Love. Love. Love.

There’s nothing like a Chanel haute couture show to remind you that there really is nothing like a Chanel haute couture show.
