I’m true believer in blue. I have loved the color blue ever since my best friend in elementary school decided she loved “purple”. It’s a color I have come to love and learn how it’s classic color for Americana style. I’ve found myself drawn once to black’s more sophisticated counterpart, navy blue with Resort 2012 Collections.
Stripes are back again and navy blue is the perfect color for this classic theme. For Resort 2012, designers put together stripes with navy blue inspired by nautical themes and while other designers go beyond.

Some collections kept the nautical trend but with a twist like,Yves Saint Laurent, Douglas Hannant, while others went for more sleek and modern version, Jen Kao, and Mary Kate and Ashlee Olsen for The Row. opted for this trend, clearly all of them took a little research time, to find out about the history of this timeless trend and off course surely, after all the investigation they might have done, this pieces conducted their collections to hit the nail for Resort 2012.
Navy blue is a classic and timeless color and when paired in stripes it’s the perfect must have this season and in 2012.
It’s mid June and fashion designers are showing their Resort Collections for 2012. Many people think there are only two collections per year, Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer. Resort began as a way for designers to entice some of their favorite clients with special designs during the off-season. The time around Christmas to about mid-February. The pieces were usually designed for clients fleeing cold climate areas traveling to somewhere tropical and needed designs not for Fall but more for summer.
Today the term “Resort” has evolved to be more of a code word for fresh new merchandise and a way for people to see what may be coming for Spring/Summer from the designer. Many designers use this time to have a bit more fun with the designers. Trust me, the Resort collection is not a last resort effort by fashion designers, but a sneak peek at what’s to come. Who wouldn’t love that?
Resort 2012 Collections are still coming down the runways, but a picked a few of my favorites.
Some of my favorite looks from Resort 2012 Collections. (From Left to Right): Chanel, Derek Lam, House of Holland, and Anna Sui
What can you say about Chanel? Karl knows what’s he’s doing every season. I love the high-waisted long skirt with the flowing blouse. Really who am I kidding? Do you see the boots? The boots are thong boots. I love them. The boots complete the look. Derek Lam gives you the perfect short look in blue and nude. Since I am a big fan of blue and navy. This is a great look and I love the obi style belt. House of Holland, let me explain. House of the Holland is designed by Henry Holland. A fashion editor turned T-shirt designer to full on fashion designer for the masses. This look is so part ’80’s inspired with a tinge of Latin flavor. The graphic stripe in the bright colors, I love. Finally, Anna Sui, a designer who loves music and is inspired by their rock n’ roll style. This look says Gypsy Hippie. Love the super short shorts with the beautiful peasant blouse. Stevie Nicks must be really proud. Can’t wait to see the rest of the looks from Resort 2012 collections.
